Yorkshire Residential Courses
Teaching widely across the UK and abroad I gained an insight into what is available to those taking quilting classes. I decided to use this knowledge and develop my own residential courses, offering a unique teaching experience, here in my native Yorkshire.
The Masterclasses range from three to five days with the emphasis on working in a fun, supportive and productive environment. My aim is to share as much of my knowledge as I can in the time available! Highfield Farm, owned by large agricultural group JSR, is the venue and has outstanding accommodation and food. There is a large communal lounge, dining room and alcohol license - for those who might need it! The rooms can be either single or double occupancy (they have 'ziplock' beds which convert double to twin). JSR have their main offices are 1½ miles down the road from the accommodation (literally a continuation of a country road). Conference facilities are here and this is where the workshops are held. We have the use of three adjoining conference rooms (one large and two slightly smaller) and kitchen in another newly refurbished space. Access is easy and there is ample parking. www.highfieldfarm.co.uk The teaching package is as follows:
The availability of the working space in the evening is a huge advantage and means that students can spend time on their work without the distractions of home. I bring large foamboard 'working walls' for everyone to use and also a small 'shop' supplied by Barnyarns to include threads, needles and such like. There will, of course, be a supply list of materials necessary for the classes but we have found the 'shop' facility very useful in the past. The Yorkshire Cookery School is happy to cater for any other evening meals students would like to have at HFF. These would need to be prearranged (notice required the day before) and the cost would be in addition to the teaching package and B&B cost. Of course students may want to visit Beverley or other places to eat at night, but having an evening meal waiting would be a real plus on evenings when they want to work later. Please have a look at the Workshop page for details of the content of these masterclasses. If you are interested in booking a place please phone or email me. THREE DAY WEEKEND WORKSHOPS IN YORKSHIRE The five day residential courses have been more popular then I could have imagined and have been wonderfully rewarding to teach. It can be hard to get a place on one of these long courses and adding more is difficult to fit into my busy work schedule. A couple of years ago I began teaching long weekend studio courses at Little Weighton Village Hall in East Yorkshire. The Little Weighton teaching package is as follows: Courses run from 1pm - 5pm on Friday, and from 9:30am to 4:30pm on Saturday and Sunday A maximum of 9 students on any course Afternoon tea and cake each day Delicious two course lunches on Saturday and Sunday. Two over-lockers, irons and boards and other equipment available for student use A fully fitted kitchen means we have unlimited tea and coffee The cost is £185 Plenty of on street parking at no charge. There is a wide range of accommodation in and around Little Weighton and so if the students are not local they have no problem finding somewhere to stay. |
